artist of the monthHello my name is Patti Paiz-Jones.
My journey in ceramics started in high school. In truth it was ceramics and an amazing art teacher that saved me and got me through to graduation, this ultimately led me to a career that I loved. I went on to study art at the University of Northern Colorado where I received an art education degree with an emphasis in ceramics. Throughout my thirty six years of teaching art , I had the good fortune to work with students grades one through twelve. The last ten years I worked solely with high school students in ceramics and sculpture, truly making my career run full circle. This experience helped solidify my desire to become a studio potter. As a retired art educator, I am now focused on my own art making and am doing business as Silver Mountain Pottery. I work with midrange clay bodies and glazes. The possibilities of exploration found in ceramics is unlimited , for that reason I continue to try new techniques. I am equally interested in functional and sculptural forms and look for ways to combine these two aspects in my work. Like many, my inspiration for my work comes from nature and time with family. In my part of the world ,surrounded by the Sangre De Cristo mountains I see many cactus of various kinds , in the spring when they and other native plants come into bloom it truly is magical. Living on the ranch I’m pretty much in solitude so the big skies ,open spaces and wildlife are a welcome addition to enjoy. I’m grateful for each day for the opportunity to spend outside on hikes with my dog Grace or inside the studio getting to create and see what new piece I might try to make . wall artist opening!
