Manitou Springs ranks among America’s top 10 small town arts scenes
Manitou Springs has earned a ranking on USA Today’s Top 10 Best Small Town Arts Scenes in America.
USA Today 10 Best editors and travel experts nominated Manitou Springs and nine other small towns based on evaluations of their museums, art galleries, performing arts and busy event calendars.
“Sitting at the base of Pikes Peak is the tiny town of Manitou Springs, a resort town ever since the area's mineral-rich waters were discovered in the 1870s. The small downtown area is filled with art galleries and eclectic boutiques. The Manitou Art Center features a maker space for digital artists and hosts courses in both traditional and non-conventional visual arts.”

Commonwheel Artists Co-op and Pikes Peak Pastel Society
Artist’s Reception, June 4, 5-8 pm
The Pikes Peak Pastel Society has been invited to hold their annual members art show at the Commonwheel Artists Co-op in Manitou Springs, Colorado, beginning on June 4, 2021. The show’s theme “Spring into Summer” will feature art by 19 of the Pastel Society’s local members with works of all sizes using the medium of soft pastel.
The Pikes Peak Pastel Society dates back to 1999 when a group of local Colorado Springs and Pueblo artists began seriously working in pastels under the mentorship and encouragement of Mariya Zvonkovich (a current member of Commonwheel Artists Co-op). PPPS was officially incorporated as a not-for-profit association in 2000 and celebrated 20 years in 2020.
The PPPS Mission is to promote, educate and encourage artistic excellence in soft pastel painting among its members within the community. Educational workshops, painting demonstrations and workshops, plein aire paint-outs, field trips to art exhibits and museums are all part of member meetings and special events.
The Commonwheel Artists Co-op began in 1974, with a mission to promote the arts in the Pikes Peak Region. The Commonwheel Artists Co-op has been recognized as a significant resource in the arts community by various groups, including the Pikes Peak Arts Council and the Manitou Springs Chamber of Commerce.
All the work exhibited in the shop is made by Colorado artists.
