Artist List Customer FAQ
How do I contact one of your artists? You can contact them directly if they have that information on their Artist List. If they don’t you are welcome to send us a note and we can forward it on the artist. Can you help me hire an artist for a specific project? No, sadly we are not that kind of business. However, all our members are self-employed artists so if you can send us details about your project we can forward it to our list of artists and perhaps one of them will contact you if they need more detail to put in a bid. (Contact Us Link) Where can I get information about classes you offer? Commonwheel doesn’t have a classroom space and does not offer any classes. Some of our artists offer classes through their own studio space or a local art school. You’ll find information about those here. Other Colorado Springs organizations that offer art classes are Cottonwood Art Center and Bemis School of Art. I bought this pottery and would like to know who made it. Send us photos and we may be able to get an answer for you. (Contact Us Link) Do you ship outside the US and accept US issued credit card as payment? Concerning the shipping, I have a shipper that you will contact regarding shipping, they will pick up the items and deliver directly to my store doorstep without hassle and I will also like to know the types of credit card you accept. Um, we don’t do this. It is a scam and will get us into trouble with our bank and the FBI. If you are not a scammer and would like to order artwork, you may do so through our Online Store page. Please complete your order with a working credit card and current contact information. We will contact you with information on how to pay the additional fund to ship outside the US. |
Festival Artist FAQ
How can I get an application for your Labor Day Festival?
Go to the Festival page.
What is your application process?
That depends, what is your goal in contacting us?
Are you wanting to become a member of Commonwheel Artists Co-op? You'll find our application process and downloadable form here. We only accept artists working in the Pikes Peak Region because, as a member, you will be working shifts or attending meetings in Manitou Springs on a regular basis.
We only consider applications when we have an opening, and only then for the specific art type we’re looking to fill. We have a static number of membership spaces and only seek new members when someone is leaving the co-op. So, for instance, when a wall artist leaves we are only looking for someone creating art that can be hung on the wall.
The best way to stay up to date on Membership Opportunities is to sign up for our newsletter (see link above).
There is detailed information in the application, so please read it thoroughly before applying. Also, please fill out the application completely.
We do not consider consignment work for our storefront. However, we do offer online store representation. You’ll find that application here.
Are you looking for a place to show and sell your work on a short-term basis? You may want to apply to be one of our Visiting Gallery Artists. You have several options.
We have an annual application process for gallery show concepts for the next year. That application is only available in May and June.
We have several juried shows throughout the year. You’ll find the application dates and details here.
Do you want someone to look at your art? We don’t do portfolio reviews. Well, we will look at your work, but just to be polite. No individual member can approve you to be a part of our co-op. All applications go through a jury made up of 6-9 members.
Are you trying to find other artists to talk to? We’re artists! We’ll talk to you. What specific questions do you have? We may have worked through that one.
We don’t have an open forum in which to discuss things, like a guild meeting or anything. But we can point you to some great resources for meeting artists. Like COPPeR, SBDC (SBDC will often have "Courses for Creatives" available) or Pikes Peak Arts Council.
How do I start an artist co-op in my area?
Honestly, our co-op is over 50 years old and none of the founding members are still part of the business. And even if they were, I’m sure the startup process has changed greatly since then.
I would recommend contacting your local Small Business Development Center or Secretary of State’s office to see what they recommend. There are several types of co-op setups you could choose from, but with all of them you will need a dedicated core of people to form the starting membership.
If you have specific questions we may be able to answer them as to how we do things. Please ask.
