Digital Art
Can I submit digitally made art?
Yes, but the creative and physical process of all digitally produced art must be
clearly described in detail. No AI generated art will be accepted.
Subject Matter
Is there any subject matter that is unacceptable?
As our gallery is primarily a tourist shop and therefore a family venue, we
discourage art that is obviously erotic in feel and intent. Nudity that is intrinsic to
the work, but not overtly sexual in intent is acceptable. We reserve the right to
make this judgement.
One Person Shows
When I apply, will I get a one person show?
No. Commonwheel does NOT offer one person shows. If you apply as a solo
artist, we will pair you with other artists whose art compliments yours.
Hanging and Exhibit Requirements
Do I hang my own art?
No. We have a committee which thoughtfully and carefully does this.
Do I need to use wire hangers on the back of my wall art?
Yes. We require that wall art be ready to be hung with wire and D rings or eyelet
screws. Sawtooth hangers are acceptable on art that is 8x10 or smaller. All
easel back flaps must be removed unless the art is meant to be displayed on a
pedestal.
Can I submit art with French Cleats or hanging systems that necessitate using screws in the wall?
No. Our wall panels are made of foam and fabric and only nails can be used. If
you submit a piece that requires screws to be hung, it will be placed on a
pedestal or we reserve the right to not display it.
Can I submit unframed artwork?
Yes. Unframed canvases both digitally produced and hand stretched must be a
“gallery wrap”. Staples must be on the back, and the sides must be painted or
have a finished look.
Can I bring my own furniture to display my work?
No. CW uses only pedestals and display units that are its property due to liability
and equanimity issues.
Do you have display fixtures/busts for my jewelry and secure displays for fragile items?
Yes. We have lockable glass boxes and several sizes of necklace busts to
display jewelry. Small, artist created display units may be acceptable for items
such as earrings. We reserve the right to reject these if poorly made or
unprofessional.
Can I bring in more art after the show is hung?
No. Any artwork not submitted at the time of intake won’t be hung. If during the
gallery show, art work sells, the gallery committee might request more artwork to
keep the show well stocked.
