Kelly Green HBaum Artist Statement:
I am driven to create as surely as I need to breathe.
I have always been intrigued with the mind, the subconscious and symbols. I indulge in reading books by Jung, Freud, Joseph Campbell, and Mother Goose, books about Philosophy, Universal Theories, Physics, History, Mythology, Theology and Conspiracy Theories.
A fantasy world of creatures called the Freak Doody Heads has taken root in my sub-conscience and is emerging as a full blown universe with its own mythology through my art work.
I began customizing vinyl toys almost a decade ago. This medium has allowed me to connect to my life-long love of toys in new ways as the creator instead of collector. I have been surprised to find that they provide an avenue of expression for some deeper thoughts and social commentary that I may have avoided previously. This in turn has caused a recent evolutionary shift in other areas of my art.
Skydiving turns up again and again in my artwork as a result of being submerged in the sport and lifestyle for nearly two decades. I retired from jumping out of airplanes in 2010 to be a full time artist, and soon after I became a full time mom instead. Now I’m both.
