Artist’s statement

I make my home with my husband and Sam, the dog, in beautiful Cheyenne Canyon in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

I have always loved fiber and fiber arts.  My request for a loom for Christmas was made and granted at 8 years old.  At 11 years old, my mom taught me how to sew and I began making my own clothing.  My graduation present from high school was a Singer sewing machine.  I have been sewing ever since!  In 1990, I started dyeing silk fibers and fell in love with the process and the beautiful results!

I am inspired by Japanese fabrics and dyeing techniques and continue to utilize and practice them as I envision bringing a piece together.  Lately, I have begun incorporating printed silk fabrics into my hand dyed pieces and love the results!

Silk is a very sturdy fiber, although some silks appear fragile, they are not!  The finished pieces can be washed, dried and ironed repeatedly.  In the dyeing process, I wash and dry the fiber several times to get the results I am looking for.
I utilize a variety of dyeing techniques involving tying and binding, using sponges, spraying and applying a variety of dyes and paints.
