Artist Statement
As an artist and educator I believe that learning is a lifelong process and my studio in Monument, Colorado allows me to work in a variety of media where the intent of the piece typically dictates the chosen medium. My love for art began in grade school when I received an award for a watercolor painting of a yacht. This then led to a focus on the arts where I was asked to create and design logos, brochures and murals. After earning my B. A. in Art Education, my desire to learn more than one style of art led me to pursue an M.A. in Fine Arts. This itch to create even had me teaching darkroom photography and implementing a computer art course for the school district. My skills where then shared by teaching community education courses. However, my desire for paint and sculpture would not subside. I became an active member in the arts community and have taken numerous awards and recognition for photographs, digital art, prints and paintings. My passion for color and the uncontrollable liquid media has led to a focus with pigments mixed with some type of liquid. Watercolors, alcohol ink, paint and even tea can be found in my works. So in essence, I am a water media artist in a nontraditional sense. My current series of the Iris have been created with a batik process on rice paper as well as with the alcohol inks on tile, boards and canvas. I love nature, fish, cycling, and traveling so you may see these in my creations. Also look for works that exhibit a childhood innocence and hints of my Slavic background.
