I am a Colorado artist who is interested in a large variety of mediums. I love the abstract quality of clay sculpture and am fascinated by rhythm, repetition and the movement of textures. I find the marriage of beauty and function in my pottery or or other functional items such as tiles, to be very rewarding. I enjoy portraiture and figural work and study them in both my clay sculpture and in my oil painting. The creative process is like an expanded reality that is exciting, invigorating and sometimes takes on a life of its own.
I was born and raised in Western Colorado, where I attended college, studied ceramics and received a Bachelors of Arts Degree eons ago. Exploring my passion for travel and people, I spent the next few years traveling the world, and in 1986 I joined the United States Army. When my duty assignments allowed, I continued to study portrait painting and figure drawing. I served 21 years in the Signal Corps, before retiring in 2007 as a Lieutenant Colonel. Now, I have recently returned to my first love…. pottery and clay sculpture. My work is expressive and indicative of the whimsy and the passion for beauty that I see in the natural world around me.
