Show Runs: February 24 - March 12 Open House: Sunday, February 26, 3 – 5 pm Please join us for refreshments and student music performances. Capturing Kid’s Creativity offers a rare opportunity to view the energetic, raw talent of our local elementary students. Drawing inspiration from Klee, Mondrian, Matisse, Picasso, Chagall, O’Keefe, Van Gogh, and local artist, Sean O’Meallie, the artwork on display conveys the depth and heart of Manitou. As one third grader says:
Art is Like... by Lilly Dyer I like art because it is like a silk, like a blanket. It is like a blanket. It is my favorite subject in school. It is beauty. It is a masterpiece...a huge, gigantic masterpiece. It is what art is. It is art, art, ART!
A credible show on it’s own, Capturing Kid’s Creativity, demonstrates the rigor of our local school and community fostering healthy, creative inspiration for whole-child learning, in spite of our financially challenging economic times. Curators, Laura McCracken and Jessica Nunn, comprised a focused selection of approximately 475 works. Concepts the students explore include the elements of art, pattern versus texture, two-dimensional versus three-dimensional, facial and figural proportion, foreground, middle ground and background.
