Artist Statement: “What would happen if…?” Experimentation is very exciting for me. I enjoy the process of painting and the immediacy and brilliance of the watercolor medium. I am currently painting on a new type of watercolor paper called yupo. Since it is made of synthetic materials, the color stays on the surface and retains its intensity. Colors flow into one another creating beautiful gradations and unusual textural results. It allows me the freedom to do loose, splashy paintings, since colors can be lifted by the mere wipe of a brush or cloth.
I love to travel and have always been intrigued by foreign cultures, both ancient and modern. Remembrances of my travels often are the inspiration for my paintings. I have relished the opportunity to live in different countries with my husband and family throughout his military career. First we went south to Panama and Venezuela then on to Italy and Germany. I was excited about moving to Colorado in the 1980’s to explore the culture of the Southwestern U.S. It has been my home since that time.
Education & Professional Experience: I received my bachelor’s degree in applied art and design from Iowa State University. More recently I have participated in workshops with several nationally known artists. I am a signature member of the Pikes Peak Watercolor Society and the Colorado Watercolor Society and a charter member of the Chromatic Edge artists group.
