Artist Statement: My fascination with glass goes back many years. I began working with stained glass in the early 1970s. As the millennium approached I found a keen interest in "hot" glass, specifically kiln formed, or fused glass. This medium offers a way to explore the properties of glass in a very unconventional style. The combination of the high tech glass process of dichroic coating combined with the formulation of a varied selection of fusing glass adds depth to my palette. Within this I find excitement and surprise, and a relationship between the artist and the material. I enjoy the challenge of this relationship as I continue to explore ways to coax unexpected, contemporary forms out of this ancient material.
Education: After a 21 year career in the Navy, I became an art student and graduated from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs in December of 2001 with a BFA in studio art.
Shows: I have shown and sold work at the Gallery of Contemporary Art at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, the Business of Art Center in Manitou Springs and at the Commonwheel Artists Co-Op in Manitou Springs.
