Artist Statement: A native of Colorado Springs and 36 year Manitou resident, Connie has been a jewelry artist for more than 30 years. Primarily self taught, she began with simple seed bead projects in the early 1980‘s. Over the years her work progressed to designing and selling her own unique concept beaded pieces. Her beadwork has been juried into Commonwheel theme shows, the Commonwheel Holiday Market, and The Business of Art Center Gallery. Besides local galleries, it has shown / sold in Columbia, MO and Sedona, AZ. In addition, it has been featured in Beading Daily and Bead and Button magazines, including a 3 page feature project in the October 2009 edition of Bead and Button.
Connie has taught beading classes locally as well as internationally as a goodwill ambassador for a poverty program in central Turkey.
In 2010 she began experimenting and fell in love with mixed metal cold connections. Her metal work has shown / sold in the 2010 and 2011 Commonwheel Holiday Markets and at the Business of Art Center.
She has a strong interest in the variety of methods available to color metal and has been playing with inks, colored pencils, torch firing, patinas, guilder's paste, crayons, markers, enamel and any other technique that strikes her fancy! Connie likes the mixture of metals, shapes, and designs that cold connections and fold forming have to offer. After years of working meticulous tiny beadwork, She's loving the freedom of expression that metals have to offer. As she grows in her art, she would like to find ways to blend the beads and metals into new and creative pieces.
