Artist Statement: "I love the smell of clay. I love the way it feels. And, it's also very forgiving. If I screw up and I haven't put it in the kiln yet, I can just thrw it in a bucket of water and I can start all over again.
This is a very labor intensive business. Clay is so responsive. I spend a lot of time with porcelain working to create a 'contrived non-chalance.' Like Chinese calligraphers, their art is studied for years and years; however, it looks so easy."
Artist Information: Though being a native of Chicago, Jean has lived in Pueblo since 1970. At the Commonwheel, we feature both Jean's pottery and glass work (sometimes fused together in one piece).
